To help companies counteract rising fuel costs, HeatSponge has developed a full line of economizers that can provide consumers with improved fuel efficiency. Using an economizer, less fuel is necessary to sustain operations, as the economizer recoups energy that would be wasted and redirects it to another process. The result is lower overall fuel usage and there may also be rebates available to you from your gas provider.
There are a number of ways to utilize an economizer. Fuel saving of approximately 1-2% can be achieved through the integration of a hot water loop. This method returns hot water that has already gone through a process back to the boiler to be used again. While the water will have lost some heat, it will still be hot enough to reheat more quickly than cold water, reducing operation time and cost.
Another way to employ an economizer is to direct the flue gas that would otherwise be wasted to preheat feedwater entering the boiler. The liquids in the tank can gain 40-50 degrees very quickly, resulting in a 2.5-3.5% fuel savings.
Savings of 6-9% can be attained by using the economizer to repurpose water for a process. An example of this is food processing where cold water is employed to perform a process that heats the water or is used for cleaning in place. The economizer would further heat the water, which can then be reused for cooking, wash down or cleanup.
Another variation on this approach would be to use an economizer to preheat cold water entering the feedwater system, which results in a 1-3% energy savings.
HeatSponge economizers can also be designed to accommodate two separate stages of process. This enables the economizer to handle up to two of the processes outlined above which results in a combined fuel savings.
To customers better understand the savings that can be achieved, HeatSponge has developed an intuitive ROI tool. By evaluating statistics including hours of operation, firing rate, current cost of gas, stack temperatures and amount and temperature of water being heated, this tool is able to determine how soon your investment will pay off.
As an added incentive, gas providers often offer rebates of up to 50% for the purchase of an economizer (including installation costs), so you can pay off your investment even sooner.
